I love macs. PCs are okay...and I will admit they have a shit ton of baller status stuff coming out in the near future or that has already come out (Project Natal, Windows Touch or whatever)

But Macs are more my cup of tea.

And I agree reid, I can sit here all day customizing my whole desktop until it's perfect, the possibilities are endless.

I really want to get a big apple monitor to plug my macbook into though (either that or just buy an iMac), I have a Samsung Syncmaster right now and it's nice but it just doesn't compliment the mac format n such.

EDIT: where does everyone get their dock icons and dock themes? I find almost all of mine from deviantart, they seem to have it all.

I have the same thing (Samsung Syncmaster 226BW) and I think it looks amazing. Since my PC died I've been using my Mac more and more for other stuff other then the normal Graphic Design stuff. Just over all its a better product, imo, and their customer service is amazing on the phone and in the store.

Mines a 22in. I have limited space in my room to actually hook anything up to the way I want and still have enough desk space for it to have a clean look. Overall, I'm happy with the display on my monitor though.

As far as my desktop, icons, and adium go; I have to mess around none stop and look for things I like. I r novice.

As far as the releasing stuff, thats with any business and technology in general. Everything is outdated so quick that its ridiculous. Either way, I don't mind PCs sure their sweet, you can play more games, etc, but I'm not a PC gamer and I just used mine for TF2, Internet, and.......ummmm, Yea TF2 and Internet. Not to mention that when I had to use my PC for 3d modeling and CS3 we had to run both at the same time....I was lucky enough that mine kept cr******ing and freezing up every 20 minutes, thank god for autosave.

meh just my 2cents. I prefer Mac products, although for you PC kids, you should be happy that Bill Gates own a major share in Apple I believe. Apple also had to remove Steve Jobs from his status years ago to save the company from going under....they just let him back within that last few years as well; seeing as it is his company.

Once I get some money. I'm kinda thinking about getting a Macbook. But tbh, I don't really know much about them. What would be the pros/cons of any kind of Apple laptop? Which one would be best? I'm not gonna get a $1500 laptop though, I'd get a lower end one. I just played around on a Macbook today and thought it was pretty cool. I also have an iPhone and love everything about it. Czechy if you're serious about getting a macbook, get the new 13.3 inch Macbook pro. It has everything you will ever need. And my advice is not to get the 4GB RAM upgrade if you don't have the money (they charge you too much) and just buy RAM off of ebay that is compatible with macbooks. That's what I did.

13.3 inches may seem small but it really isn't. I like my size and wouldn't have gotten anything bigger because I carry it around in my backpack and such for school.

Pros of a Macbook:
Apple OS is the best operating system you can get
You can split up your harddrive and run windows, if you want to play windows only compatible games or run windows only applications.
The macbook is small, compact, slim, and rather light for lugging around to class if that's what you do.
I know it sounds dumb, but Apple keyboards are like sex. When my fingers first touched the keyboard I fell in love. All other PC keyboards are cluttered with sloppy buttons that look like a bad contour job in photoshop (with the exception of Sony Vaio)
The new macbooks have an awesome graphics card so you can play somewhat demanding games on your laptop if you'd like.
The OS comes with iLife which you can find out more about on their website...but basically it's awesome.
Your iPhone can do all sorts of stuff with your mac that it couldn't do with a PC (act as a remote for iTunes, a bluetooth mouse, access your music library on the go, and several other things I can't think of)
No viruses so you never have to mess around with those stupid virus programs that end your subscription and keep popping up in the corner asking you to renew (I forgot viruses even existed)
You can buy a relatively cheap connector cable and hook it up to an external monitor for a larger display at home or where ever. I have mine hooked up to a Samsung Syncmaster and love it. I plan to buy an Apple LED soon, maybe for christmas.

Cons:
Takes a little time to get used to navigating around the OS if you've been a PC user your whole life (however, might I add that once you get comfortable with it, you'll use a PC and go wtf this thing is boring and sucks dicks)
PCs are more widely used by universities and other institutions...however I don't see this as a con because there really is no compatibility issue that I have encountered (people just like to use this one so they have a con)
In fact, my university has an equal amount of Macs as PCs in their library so whatever.
Relatively Expensive although when you start using your mac, I think you'll quickly forget about the price.

13.3 inches may seem small but it really isn't. I like my size and wouldn't have gotten anything bigger because I carry it around in my backpack and such for school.
You can easily carry around laptops greater than 13.3. inches in size... 15.6 inches is usually considered the best size for portability and performance. Many people, including me, find it easy to carry around 17 inch notebooks.

Pros of a Macbook:
Apple OS is the best operating system you can get
100% opinion. And even if it is better, is an OS worth paying 2x the price of a similar PC?

You can split up your harddrive and run windows, if you want to play windows only compatible games or run windows only applications.
Or you can just buy windows in the first place and be able to run every application that you can find (other than Apple specific programs like Final Cut, but Adobe Premiere studio is just as good).

The macbook is small, compact, slim, and rather light for lugging around to class if that's what you do.
If you do get a laptop with these features than the laptop's performance will suffer since there will be less room for higher performance components. But there are many PCs that are small, compact, etc.

I know it sounds dumb, but Apple keyboards are like sex. When my fingers first touched the keyboard I fell in love. All other PC keyboards are cluttered with sloppy buttons that look like a bad contour job in photoshop (with the exception of Sony Vaio)
I have no idea what the fuck you are talking about here. The Asus G51vx-RX05 from bestbuy has a backlit keyboard just like Apples. Saying that all PC keyboards suck is just stupid, lol. Even netbooks don't have cluttered keyboards...

The new macbooks have an awesome graphics card so you can play somewhat demanding games on your laptop if you'd like.
lmao, this is my favorite part of your post. The 13" macbook pro you recommended has a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics card. First of all it is integrated, which means that it shares its memory with the processor which severely affects its performance. This card is neither awesome or able to play any games on high settings if they are more advanced than Doom3 (made in 2004). It may be able to play some newer games on low settings, but if you wanted to play something like Crysis or Starcraft 2, you are screwed. If you want a graphics card that can play those games, check out the Asus G51(http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9366651&type=product&id=1218092150636) I was talking about. It has a GTX 260M graphics card which will be able to play Crysis on VERY HIGH settings and handle any games that come out in at least 3 years (the processor on this model does bottleneck the machine though, so if you were going to get this laptop it would be a good idea to purchase a processor off of ebay to upgrade the machine). This laptop was $999 a few days ago, and people are still able to go to bestbuy and get the laptop for $999 even though it is $1050 now.

The OS comes with iLife which you can find out more about on their website...but basically it's awesome.
No idea what that is.

Your iPhone can do all sorts of stuff with your mac that it couldn't do with a PC (act as a remote for iTunes, a bluetooth mouse, access your music library on the go, and several other things I can't think of)
You have to have an iPhone for this to matter, but even so I don't see how you couldn't do these things with a PC if you have iTunes on it.

No viruses so you never have to mess around with those stupid virus programs that end your subscription and keep popping up in the corner asking you to renew (I forgot viruses even existed)
In 3 years or so, this will be a way different story. Also windows vista and 7 come with a firewall and virus protection so anti-virus software isn't even needed.

You can buy a relatively cheap connector cable and hook it up to an external monitor for a larger display at home or where ever. I have mine hooked up to a Samsung Syncmaster and love it. I plan to buy an Apple LED soon, maybe for christmas.
Lol thanks for mentioning this. Macs come with an Apple specific video output that outputs both digital and analog signals. This sounds pretty sweet, but in order to use this you have to buy adapters just so that you can output VGA or HDMI/DVI signals. If I remember correctly, the VGA adapter is about $30 and the HDMI one is about the same. PCs come with VGA and HDMI outputs so all you have to do is buy VGA and HDMI cables (which are like $5 each off of monoprice.com)

PC suggestions:

Asus G51VX-RX05 from bestbuy: 15.6" notebook with a backlit keyboard, 320GB 7200RPM HDD, GTX 260M graphics card, slot loading optical drive (which is much better than the mac CD drives which you cannot use the small gamecube size CDs with that sometimes come with random shit. Also there is a higher chance of a CD/DVD geting stuck in the Mac optical drives.) and a suck-ass 2.0GHz processor. The processor really isn't an issue though since you can buy a superior processor than the mac's off of ebay for less than $200. For instance you can get a Q9200 quad core processor off of ebay for $250. This processor has four 2.4GHz processing cores instead of the mac's 2 2.5GHz processing cores (making the processor much better for things like multi-tasking, photoshop, video editing, video encoding, etc.). Quad core processors are what are going to be the norm in a couple of years, so it would be good to get a computer that supports them (the macs do not).
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 8092150636 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9366651&type=product&id=1218092150636)
$1050 but you can get it for $1000 at bestbuy since they just upped the price a few days ago. If you were to get a quad core it would be about $1250-$1300 which is still hundreds of dollars less than the 13" mac.

Sager NP8662: 15" 1680x1050 screen, 4GB ram, 2.66GHz processor, GTX 260M graphics card, 320GB 7200rpm HDD, etc. all for under $1500. Seriously, check this computer out. It's also quad core compatible if you wanted to upgrade later.

Oh shit, we got a debate going. For the record I do have an iPhone and I'm pretty sure it doesn't do shit with the PC, I have iTunes. I've had my computer for probably maybe 1.5 years and it's getting ready to break down. It's a Vista. I always have the virus protection things popping up. Apparently it removed a trojan from my computer a few days ago. But it freezes almost every day, and recently it randomly went to the blue screen while I was in Stickam. I also have other random little problems that aren't too bad, but just rather annoying. And I had a laptop a few years ago but it got completely fucked by virus' in about a year and doesn't work at all anymore. Idk what the problem is because I don't go to weird sites and if anything pops up saying it's not safe I leave. I understand that buying a Mac would partly pay the high price for the name, that doesn't bother me much. But everyone I've talked to that has a Mac is completely in love with it, as am I with my phone. Apple just makes great products.

Edit: Thanks for both of your thoughts/opinions.

In a few years there will be just as many viruses for macs as there are for PCs now.

Also try the Notebookreview Vista Tips and Tweaks Guide (http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=166532) to help optimize Vista. Vista is actually a great OP ever since SP2 was released and also if you guy a laptop with vista you get a free upgrade to Windows 7 when it is released.

You say in a few years. That's fine with me. My desktop wont last more than another couple of months probably. And from my personal experiences my laptops don't last a few years. I also don't play PC games, so graphics and whatnot are not an issue for me. I would just like to play around on the Mac, and the portability would be nice. But it would be nice to not have to deal with anti-virus programs. And actually, the Macbook that I was using, the keyboard was weird for me. I liked it, but it would definitely take me a day or two to get used to.

PCs just don't measure up to macs. Who the fuck buys a laptop to game on anyways?

It all depends on what you plan to use your computer for, and frankly I haven't found anything with my mac that I would change or consider buying a PC for half the price.

The fact that a mac can run Windows and OS X makes it better than a PC because it can do everything and anything the PC can do while still giving you the option to use the better Apple operating system.
Every single classroom at my university is equipped with a Mac Pro and has Windows and OS X installed on it.

If you want a gaming computer, Apple makes those as well.

The failure with PC users is that they use PCs and always have. Most mac users began with PCs and made the switch because they were sick of their buggy, gimmicky, cheapo PC. So, Mac users have had the best of both worlds and can make educated arguments and statements about both machines, while PC users sit back and assume without getting their feet wet and using a mac.

They need to make a movie like super-size me but call it "Macintosh Me"

Testify
07-11-2009, 07:35 PM
If you think that Windows is buggy then you haven't tried Windows 7 or Windows Vista with the most recent SP. And I could say that you just like macs since you bought a computer for 2x the price of a comparable PC and you don't want to face the fact that you paid a more than $1000 premium just for an OP.

I paid that money because I had that money to spend. If I want something and I have the money, I'm going to buy it lol.

If money is your issue, go buy a PC...but price aside, the mac wins imo. The obvious reason for macs being so much more expensive is the fact that there is only one distributor as opposed to a million different brands who are constantly releasing new stuff.

I will admit I have not tried Windows 7, but I wasn't comparing a Mac to Windows 7, I was comparing it to Vista which is junk imo. And I hate XP, it just feels so primitive for lack of better word.

Anyways, the Google Chrome Beta is out for Mac...I am using it right now and it's fucking awesome, I tr******ed firefox and I think I will keep using this until the real version comes out.

Saying that you had the money to spend isn't a good reason considering that you still could have spent that money on a PC and gotten a computer with hardware that is twice as good as a mac's.

And that is your opinion. It's all relative. I use my macbook for schoolwork, watching movies, downloading music, and browsing the internet, occasionally making shit on Photoshop CS4.
My macbook does all that stuff just as well as any PC and better in my opinion. Why should I have to endure the ugly and boring windows vista when I have the money to buy a Macbook?

I think the people who have problems with Vista cr******ing and all that stupid shit just suck with computers imo. I have had this computer for about 3 years now, Vista all 3 years on it, and I have never had a hardware related problem. Biggest headaches I can think of are internet connecting problems, but those are my fault. It's really easy to not get viruses, and anyone who has been on the Internet for at least the past few years should know what and what not to click. Sure, it would be nice to go around doing what I want on a mac with having no fears of getting any viruses (yet), but that isn't a good selling point for me at all (although my friends mom swears we get viruses on her computer every time we use it. she said google gives you viruses when using the search engine, wat).

As far as the iPhone things with Mac that you mentioned, Rhys, you can do most of those with a PC. I don't doubt that iPhones are much better with Mac's, but I don't see anyone buying one because of it.

Everyone gives Vista a lot of shit, but in all honestly it has worked 100% fine for me. The problems a lot of people have is they try putting it on a computer that can't run it properly because it doesn't meet the minimum system requirements. My comp has a high end graphics card, dual core processor, 5 gb's RAM, etc. so it runs it very well.

With all that said, I wouldn't mind owning a Mac. They do look very nice, but they ARE really expensive. If I had the c******, I would get one.But If I need a PC fast and was low on money, I would go with a decent PC in a heartbeat.

I just hate the majority of Mac fanboys who suck Steve Jobs' dick hard. I had a few in my school and I really couldn't stand their obnoxious arrogance, when none of them knew a thing about computers.

So, if you have used a Mac before and like it, and have the money, buy one for sure. Especially if you're not great with computers.

If you want more bang from your buck, buy a PC. If you know what you're doing you can keep a PC for 5+ years if you take care of it and upgrade it. It might seem like a lot of money, but if you get a Mac you are more or less stuck with what you have and if a new model comes out with all these awesome features, you're gonna have to thrown down some c****** and buy it, whereas with a PC you can just upgrade and buy the parts and customize it for exactly what you want.

Agreed. I've had this PC for at least 5 years now, and I think I had one virus over that time that I was able to fix by myself. If you know a decent amount of stuff about computers, there is no need to get a Mac, since PC's are cheaper and can do the same stuff.

I think people like XP because it's a lot more modifiable or something. At least that's what my computer genius roommate and his friend told me. I don't know I trust them, they are faggots.
Yes, MS OS's tend to be more modifiable since you can run developer programs like regedit, gpedit.msc, services.msc, telnet, msconfig, and many others that help you optimize your OS.

No, I was referring to the majority preference of XP over Vista.
Wasn't talking about the mac OS....it's good enough as it is...doesn't need to be modified ;)

Alright, my Macbook has always been hot. I dl'd iStat a while ago and noticed the temp on it sometimes spikes for 52 degrees on up to, the highest it's been is 77 degrees. It's usually n a hard surface. Is it normal? I can get it below 51 degrees.

Iceland is actually a very flush, temperate place to live. Greenland is the barren ice island.

Yeah dude, macbooks get ragin cajun hot. It's a common problem. Apparently in their user agreement they call it a notebook and say you shouldn't put it on your lap because it gets hot or something.
