View Full Version : Good headphones?

With me buying an iPhone next week, and it also being my first iPod, I was wondering what third party headphones I could buy to go along with it.
I have Sennheisers, which are amazing, but they are way too awkward to wear in public (7 foot cable, overtly large auxillary plug, etc.)
What would you guys recommend?
Earbuds preferred, btw.

get some shure earbuds, they are awesome, and if you get them off amazon, they are like 100+ cheaper then the msrp. I got the 300 model for the price of the 100. They have excellent sound quality and are noise isolating, so you can have them at lower then half volume and not hear anything from the outside world.

Yeah shures are probably the way to go if you want earbuds.

Just remember to take absolute care of them if you get Shures. They aren't the most durable earbuds and I would know, went through two pairs :(

Be sure not to get skullcandies. They are the bassiest most terrible pieces of shit you can imagine. Everytime I see some dumbass teenager or college kid with skullcandies thinking he is awesome I want to punch a whole through the goddam ozone layer and give him skin cancer.

I lold.
All my friends get skullcandy headphones cause they have cool colors.
I dunno, I guess I'm one for appreciating quality over aesthetics. Though I need new earbuds, so this thread is relevant to my interests.
If you're going too go headphones though, making the investment into Bose QC2s. I've had them for 3 years and they have been beyond phenomenal every day. You don't hear shit and the music quality is honestly incomparable.

Bose headphones are incredibly overpriced for what you get. Look at any audiophile forum such as head-fi and every single person on there hates Bose. Saying that a pair of headphones has lasted 3 years isn't impressive considering that some people on the head-fi forums are using headphones that they bought 30 years ago...
The best thing for you to do is to buy some headphones from AKG, Grado (if you listen to mostly rock), Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, Beyerdynamic, or Shure (for earbuds).
As it has been said from the 1970s, "No Highs? No Lows? Must be Bose!"

You think people are using headphones from 1979 now? I'll believe that when I come to the conclusion that Radiohead is comprehensible and well thought out music.
Anywho, there would be no point to actually asking us about headphones if you're just going to bring up an opinion from a forum. Actually I'll bring up an opinion from a forum. The site is called me.com, and from this dude's experience (Senns, Grados, Beyerdynamic, Bose), he likes Bose the best.
Form your own opinion, and don't present opinions as facts.
Thanks, dude.

You'll never accurately rate any types of headphones without opinions. The best headphones are those with the best sound quality compared to price and craft, not always the most expensive for instance (which would also infer that the best quality parts are used). There is a great technique in making a good headphone that there is no factual or statistical basis to form a judgment on consistently across all platforms, I mean you have specs but those really only take you so far, therefore the best ways to rate headphones are the user's opinions.
If you read that the majority of people think that Bose is overpriced, then you would be less likely to choose that because you don't want your $200 investment to go into something you believe you might not like since a majority don't like it as well. Sure it comes down to personal tastes, but you don't have $200 to spend on every type of headphones so why not go with a 'safer' choice.

Sorry, but Bose sucks. That saying is right...no highs and no lows.
I have never actually used Shures but they get great reviews and even though they're pricey as fuck...I don't know.
But honestly, I see no point in wasting money on earbuds. I would never run with 300 dollar earbuds lodged in my sweaty ear or lift weights with a 300 dollar cord running down my sweaty stomach...when I wear earbuds I accept the fact that they are for practical uses and not for enjoying music to its fullest abilities. If I want to do that, I will go wear my cans or listen to my Klipsch stereo.
Just my 2 sense.
